From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the science fiction action adventure “Ready Player One,” based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name. The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

  • WOW! Must have

So original! So good! Great acting!
  • Not the book

My problem with this movie is that the book it was based on, and I loved the book, is that it was steeped in nostalgia about the 80’s. The movie has stripped all the nostalgia out. It is shallow and uninspired.

Best New movie I have seen this year. Every thirteen minutes it was turning off. Unsure what was causing intermittent continuity loss? Seemed like video was buffering but with high speed internet from Xfinity.
  • Spielberg did the book a great disservice.

The book is just so much better than the movie it is insane. Making the first challenge a car race instead of the Tomb of Horrors completely killed the rest of the movie. If you have not read the book, you might get some enjoyment out of this movie, good luck. If you have read the book, don’t watch this, read the book again.

    A must watch. Visually stunning
  • Nothing like the book.

First off, Ludus wasn’t even mentioned once. Aech is black, which goes against Book Aech’s reasoning. Ridiculous. The challenges and the gate weren’t the same. I-rok wasn’t even supposed to appear more than once, and that appearance was supposed to be in the basement. Which I didn’t see till the end of the movie. Basically everything was different. And also, Wade’s avatar looks different than what was described in the book. On the other hand, everything in the oasis was beautifully rendered. It looked realistic, but not so realistic that you couldn’t tell the difference from real life, which was amazing. Challenges were different, yes, but I guess that was to have new challenges as to have the readers discover new challenges along with Parzival and the High Five.
  • I love it!!!
